Fox Valley Technical College has a 802.11b/g compliant wireless network in areas of the FVTC district where a traditional wired network is cost prohibitive, impractical to cover, and to provide an alternate method for students and staff to utilize the network.
The wireless network is open to all students and guests who have an 802.11b/g PCMCIA or PCI network card. Although any 802.11b/g compliant card should work, Information Services recommends purchasing a Cisco Aironet series NIC.
By using the wireless network you are bound by the college's
Administrative Policies regarding Acceptable use of Computers
Most non-FVTC computers with a Windows operating system should auto-detect the wireless settings; however, if your computer does not, set the wireless card "Infrastructure" or "Access Point" mode, and set the SSID to "guest" (no quotes).
At this time the Information Technology department will not support any physical area not covered, student or guest access, or encryption concerns.
